  • 6 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional) optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Topping
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Serving
  • as needed Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice. Spread into dish.
  3. Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and cut-in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.
  4. Bake for 40–45 minutes until bubbling and golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
