Cake Batter
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Frosting
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cake pan.
  2. Mix softened butter and sugar until creamy, then add eggs and vanilla.
  3. Alternate adding flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, milk, and sour cream; mix until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool, then prepare frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and sprinkles.
  6. Frost the cake and decorate with additional sprinkles if desired.
