Method
 

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain well.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in salt and pepper.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Add macaroni to cheese sauce and stir to combine.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra creamy sauce, use whole milk and freshly grated cheese.
