Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 8-inch cake pans.
- Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing gently.
- Divide batter into pans, bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
- Color the frosting with food coloring if desired. Decorate the cooled cakes with buttercream or fondant, adding sprinkles or edible decorations for a themed look.
